What do we make of the senseless murder of one of our dearest freinds?
We all have countless questions...and so much anguish!
We question our faith in the nation when one of its youngest and brightest is slain in such a way..
We question our faith in divinity, trying to rationalise why such horrid things happen to good people...
We question why her? Why now? Why in this way?... Too soon...much too soon...
its crazy how these things happen, one minute you're here and the next minute you're gone and the thing that got me is that licia was sitting rite next to me at the wake up until she left...when the unimaginable happened
I honestly donno who is alicia, but my heart goes out to her family and firends. I know what its like to loose a loved one as young as she was. I hope god can give her family the strength to live life again. Alicia my your soul rest in peace, and I wish to god that those who are responsible for this brutality be brought to justice in the worst possible way.
Alicia, my bhs compadre, my ug batchmate, my kitty neigbour, u did not deserve this! I am too overcome by grief to write properly. U have NEVER did or said anything to hurt anyone around u...I am not exaggerating when I say NEVER..U were the sweetest person, most pleasant with the most positive attitude. It breaks my heart to see the way you died, you were doing what we all dream of doing, standing out and making a change against all odds, doing the right thing where political undertones are inherent, but you still stuck it out, did the right thing, and paid a high price for it. I want to encourage our generation not to succumb to this gross, blatant, shameful corruption in Guyana. Alicia may have lost her life, but it is not in vain. You were principled and honest, bhs born and bred, beautiful inside out. Alicia, we are the ones that have to ensure that your death is purposeful as much as the life you led. Let us put the pressure on them to give answers. Ghandi said "Be the change you want to see in the world"...And Alicia Foster was the very example of that. You lived with distinction, and your legacy will live on. Simplicity, kindness, contentment,forgiveness..these are all qualities of divinity, and what we read about. I can't write enough tonight but I'll stop here. Sweetheart, you're with God and you've lived an excellent life. I heed the message of your death, and hope that it will inspire the change you were diligently trying to execute.

Alicia's death completely defies all sense of logic... our collective peace was disturbed... our anxieties awoken by yet another tragic death in our country.
For it to be someone so close... someone held so dear to so many is unimaginable. This is ultimately overwhelming and so much to bear.
She was modest and sweet, yet at the same time very assertive and quietly confident. A true friend to so many... life will be completely changed without her around now.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all her family and friends in their hour of grief. Alicia may your soul rest in peace.
All I can say is that Alicia could be described as beautiful from the inside, out. She literally was the most kind hearted & compassionate persons you can encounter in your life time. I am so saddened by hear death and I know there are not enough words to console her family but my deepest condolences are with you.

I knew Alicia from High School, but really got to know her well at work. She was my first real friend at EPA. We shared an office for a year and a half and we got pretty close during this time. She was a model employee...working after 4:30, methodically working through her files, doing a million things at once...she was always so patient with me, answering my same stupid questions over and over without getting angry, laughing at my lame jokes and listening to my numerous rants.
I respect her and her work ethic and she had a profound impact on what I wanted to be as an employee and a person. She would never get bothered by the stupid petty stuff and never indulged in idle gossip.
I cant believe she's gone. I hope that the evil people behind this pay for what they've done...for ending her life...for snatching her away from us...for traumatizing her family and friends beyond belief...and for every tear that has been shed for her.
Rest in Peace Alicia. You are deeply missed.

I extend my deepest sympathy to her family and friends.I am so frustrated and mad right now, u stay in Guyana to serve your country, work and live a honest life and this is what happens...u r cut down in the prime of your life by sadistic murders.I had the chance of meeting Alicia during our undergraduate studies at UG,and i must say that she had a pleasant personality, but i what i remember about most about Alicia was her smile.... u literally felt good just by looking at her. I hope and pray that the perpetrators of this heinous and sadistic act will be brought to justice. Guyana has lost one of its brightest and talented daughters.Rest in peace, Alicia.
Our Father, we come to you today as family, friends, colleagues, who have been affected by this shooting at Lot 78 David Street, Kitty. We are grieving. We have lost a sister, a friend, a colleague, and a fiancée. So many of us are hurt. God because of this incident we are all hurting.
We pray that you will be with the families and friends of Alicia. Life is such a precious gift from you. Please God change the hearts of those who have pain and anger in their hearts. Help them realize that lives are important.
In front of our homes we want to feel safe. We feel protected. But when out of the blue a person with anger in his/her heart comes and takes the lives of others, the security in our home is threatened.
God we pray for Alicia to be lifted up before today. We pray that you give her peace. Give her comfort. Let her know that you are there.
We also pray for the shooter. We don’t know what would cause someone to do something so terrible. God protect our hearts that we might not act in a rage of violence. We also ask that you help us reach out to those who we may suspect could act on their anger in such a way.
This act of violence was not your plan for Alicia. You are a God of love and you command us to love one another and not to murder. God you sent us Jesus to give your life for us. Not to hurt us, but to save us.

I had the pleasure of interacting with Alicia from a professional standpoint. I admired her forthrightness and very polite manner. She was very interested in her work and we are the poorer for not having the benefit of her abilities anymore.

Alicia was the daughter of my first cousin James Foster. I knew of her and her excellence at school and university and felt so very proud to have her in my family. I'm devastated by her death in such a cruel and senseless manner, especially as her death comes right after that of Jonathan Hinckson, only son of Joy Field-Ridley. I'm so sshaken by this epidemic of violence that takes so many of our best and brightest. My thoughts are for James and his wife and Alicia's siblings, may they find comfort in time and remember her as the fine person she was.

All BHS alumni are aware of the maxim, " THE MERIT OF ONE IS THE HONOUR OF ALL". This was instilled in us over the years and really gave us a sense of togetherness and purpose. Early Monday morning, I heard of the tragic, senseless, brutal, inhumane act that was carried out on one of us, our own Alicia Foster. In the BHS family, when one is recognized, we all feel a sense of pride, when one is taken from us, we all feel the grief and pain. I know many of us are hurting, even though we may not have had personal contact with Alicia, but this comes from the family like environment that we all so enjoyed at BHS and the morals and values that were instilled in us whilst there.
Morals and values that are clearly void in this society we live in. The society we were taught to respect, to love, to build to honour.
This very society has brutally taken so many of us,(Yohance Douglas, Denis Edghill to name a few ) leaving a lot of questions unanswered.
Alicia, like many of us represented and still represent truth, integrity and the fight for justice. I whole heartedly agree, that we cannot let this down BHS alumni. We indeed need to come together as BHS family and let our voices be heard, not only for Alicia but for all those who have fallen at the hands of heartless criminals in the recent past.
My condolences go out to her family and friends. Her memory will live on because WE WILL KEEP IT ALIVE.

We are the future - we need to work against these evils that plague us in this dear land we love so much.
Dedicated to a friend who has shown me many different ways to enjoy life and who I thought would be with me in sharing our accomplishments being conservationists in the country everyone says has the most pristine forests. I won’t confound you with details of how well I know Alicia, and I say I know because I still know her, in my mind, my heart, I doubt even the slightest instance that she is not here.
Me not being here physically, as I sit in my room, unable to fathom the degree of pain I’m feeling, I write to attest that I know one of the most beautiful persons in my life. She taught me so much, in school, church, and we’d compare stories of who had the most scars after one of our jungle trips. I sit on the floor typing and all I can remember is seeing her one Sunday after a trip she’d taken and she was covered in bumps and I couldn’t help laughing, I thought – that’s a bit overdoing it for scars. And we did, as we always did, after trips; the how did that happen conversation.
I can only say that in times of the pain of loss, words elude us, nothing we can say will compensate the loss, but to know that our lost loved one made our lives so different that this gaping abyss is left at their departure, in itself is a testament of how much we loved them and will continue to love them when they are gone.
To friends and family, and our congregation, it is with my deepest sympathies, my aching heart and weeping eyes that I say goodbye to a piece of my life. I am so sorry I couldn’t be here to offer support and a shoulder to lean on. Jermaine.
I remember the first time I met Alicia at BHS, she was so sweet and always had the sweetest smile.
When I heard she was shot, I immediately called a friend, whom she used to date and I questioned him, he was not aware and so he called the family and then confirmed it was true.
I cried, I was so shocked...
I'm still in shock, why did they do this? why is this happening to our young people?
I don't feel safe anymore, I have become paranoid.
Alicia never did anything to hurt anyone, and to be murdered for doing her job is senseless, inhumane, cowardly...and just downright preposterous and absurd to say the least. she didn't deserve this.
When I think of her family, I can't imagine what they are going through, especially her sister who witnessed it. I know what it is to loose a loved one...and it is hard. But to loose her in such a senseless way...I can only imagine how her fiancee must be feeling.

Even though we want justice, we must remember...we must not past judgement, for we know not what those individuals were thinking when they killed our loved one. We must forgive and remember Alicia and think of what she would have wanted in a situation like this.

I knew Alicia from High School, when i heard of her death i was so shocked and saddened. I didn't know much about her, but from what i could remember she was a nice person. Her death brings about questions to us, how could someone just walk up and shoot someone so innocent, how could they be so heartless and senseless. It just makes you wonder and like some rightfully said 'today you're here and tomorrow you just don't know where you gonna be.'

I don't know Alicia but I know many who do. I've only heard great things about this young woman. I pray that the police find out who is responsible for her death. They should be severely punished and experience a faith worse than Alicia's.
I am not a friend of Alicia but we are from the same area, most mornings on my way to school I would see her in the yard or getting into the vehicle to get to work. She was always pleasant and look like an angel.
How could someone so sweet be taken away from us so soon, it’s hard to accept this fact ……… as the saying goes everything happens for the best and the Lord knows what’s best too, I know for her mother, father family and close friends are questioning the lord, why now why my child and why in this manner. Death is something the human sole can never come to grip with, don’t matter how hard we try to brace ourselves for it we are never prepared.

I remember one day I was at Avenue of the Republic and I heard someone calling my name, it was Alicia, she was coming straight at me not even caring about the traffic...we hadn't seen each other for a while and she wanted to know what was up. That was the kind of person she was...she had a target and she went for it.
Alicia I will miss you...
Alicia has touched each one of us in some way or the other. May we remember her for the life she lived and the so many wonderful lives she has made an impact on.
It is hard to imagine that we will no longer hear her say good morning, or good afternoon, or to see her rushing off to a meeting, or just to say a simple hi.

In the many years I have come to know her, I never saw or heard of her having a dispute with anyone…she was always pleasant and full of positive energies. Alicia, my friend, my classmate, my work colleague, as i sit here typing i honestly don't know what to say, or how to react. I have fond memories of Alicia mostly at work. I remember the type of person she was... so kind,warm-hearted, easy-going, calm and collected, such a sweet person to know. Alicia took pride in her job, and was very dedicated to church activities, reading and teaching sunday school.
Alicia was and still is a role model for young women today. I choose to think that she's still with us not physically but definitely in spirt.I would never forget how happy she was on her birthday of recent, dancing and laughing merrily... How could someone commit this terrible act and still live with themselves.. I have a feeling of emptyness and helplessness.. Alicia you don't deserve this .. and I hope and pray that the murderer is brought to justice and your family and friends find peace.

Could someone, anyone, please explain for me.
On the 13th October, 2008 a part of my soul died; so much so my mother thought she was about to lose her child too. All she heard was "Licia.....!" and my voice was inaudible for 10mins . The brutal slaying of one of my best friends sent shockwaves riveting throughout my body.
Fosty, as Rayana and i often called her was one of the most peaceful beings i've ever known. Her warm toothy smile, her tender embrace- i remember like it was just yesterday on the top corridor of the Bishops' High School ( Form 1C with Mrs. Khan).
Her casual way of saying "Hey Jojo what's up?" and my regular response "nothing much - ah deh!" Fosty would just smile and say "okay Jojo"
From Bishops' to UG she was still Fosty to me. Her sweet spirit and warmth had never changed.
Fosty, by association and friendship, unknowingly taught me to be humble and not anxious and for that i am eternally grateful.
Alicia your memory will forever live on in my heart.

It is written that in the last days the hearts of men will grow COLD. Alicia's senseless murder is a classic example of that. That men could be that heartless is truly baffling!!
Alicia was my senior at BHS, and though I did not know her personally, I can safely say she was a very pleasant young lady. She was one of those people who stood out even when they were in the background. I remember her as being a very quiet and peaceful
student.
My thoughts are with her family, friends and colleagues. BHS mourns the loss of another ...I pray for all those other families affected by her death and who on hearing such news, had to instantly relive the pain of losing one of their own. When I read of Alicia's death I couldnt help but reflect on Dennis' murder - How many more???

It took a while for me to muster the strength to write words to my friend Alicia. The only strength is in knowing that she is with the Lord.
It's hard to believe that just one week before this gruesome act, Alicia was planning to go to drive with us to a wedding in Essequibo...we were all happy.
Every morning passing by your house is such difficult task. I usually always try to look to see if you would be coming out with you car and try to shout your name and give a little wave.
Since UG days, I always admired you, your persona, your kindness, and your liveliness.
I will miss you Alicia...I truly will.
The Management and Staff of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mourns the loss of a model employee, colleague and friend.
Senior Environmental Officer (Acting), Alicia Angelica Foster who was killed last night, joined the EPA as an Environmental Officer on April 11, 2005. Ms Foster was assigned to the Environmental Management Division (EMD) in the Mining, Forestry and Tourism Unit where her commendable performance earned her a promotion in July 2007 to Environmental Officer II. In April this year, she was again promoted, this time to the position of Senior Environmental Officer (Acting) and assigned to the Complaints and Response Unit of the Environmental Management Division.
A highly disciplined, dedicated, committed and personable individual, Ms Foster made a significant contribution to the EPA. She was the Agency’s representative on the Board of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission and the National Water Council, successfully coordinated activities on the monitoring and closure of Omai Gold Mines Ltd and had done considerable amount of work in the forestry and mining sectors. She was also instrumental in training, especially of new recruits, in the Agency.
Ms Foster had a genuine interest in environmental issues particularly in the areas of Waste Management, Natural Resources Management, Pollution Prevention and Ecosystem and Environmental Assessment.
Director (Acting) of the EM Division Mr Khalid Alladin, said that Ms Foster was an asset to the EM Division. Her high level of proficiency and her care and consideration for others were reflected in her being one of the pillars for the success, unity and teamwork of the Division and her passing has certainly left a vacuum within the Division. Other Staff of the Agency echoed similar sentiments.
The Management and Staff of the Agency extend deepest condolences to the family, relatives and friends of Ms Foster and join with them in mourning her loss. She will be sadly missed.
Environmental Protection Agency
It's strange to me that someone would not care about another person's life (in this case Alicia's) to just shoot them and leave as though that life had no meaning. They have left Alicia's family friends and life with a big blank space where she used to so quietly, humbly and lovingly fill.
It's a shame that they didn't take 1 minute to know her, because that would be all the time needed to know that everything they were about to do was TOTALLY wrong.
The few moments that I have had the opportunity to know Alicia has not stopped flashing through my head. The horrible way she was killed has not left me. This is OUTRAGEOUS that she is gone this way, but I know she has gone to a better place.
Don't let Alicia's life be in vain. Let us learn what life really means and spend the moments we have making time for the moments we will encounter each other and use it to the utmost best to the glory of God who knows all things, sees all things and makes and determines the reason for all things.

It is with great sadness that i type these few words as i try to accept that a friend was brutally murdered and is no longer with us.
Everyday I read the news or hear of a senseless murder but this time i understood what it felt like to lose a friend so tragically.
As i reflect, I've known Alicia since at Primary school but we became close at the Bishops' High. She was always a kind and caring individual who was willing to lend a helping hand in her own small way and who can forget her smile.
She had such a promising future which shall remain unfulfilled. Another life taken much too soon.
Alicia i'm grateful to have known you. Now that you're gone all i'm left with are the memories which will be cherished.

I feel in love with her the first day i saw her in September 2000, first semester of our university lives, she was chatting with a friend of mind and I went over and asked for an introduction, my first question was do u believe in love, she replied" how can u love me and meeting me for the first time" i had no answer but I knew and felt she was mine. As time past we became friends, in 2006 I asked for a chance she gave it some thought, eventually she went to a "catholic choice weekend" for youths and made the decision, over that weekend, I was nervous, mixed with a lot of emotions couldn't wait for the Sunday evening for my answer of course I had some doubts, for the fact that I had asked before. she called me about 6:30 that evening, being very anxious I asked what was her answer going to be, she said," I have a question"... do u believe in GOD, I replied,”. Yes. she went on by saying "we talk well and had a lot of things in common, and could not have believe after so many years from that fist moment we met was about commit to a guy who loved her from that first day he met her, finally she said, YES. That was one of happiest my life. Our relationship grew as time revealed to us that we were meant for each other. Alicia was an ANGEL that lived on earth, she a simple person, brilliant, courageous, god fearing, funny, special, and had a smile that would bring sunlight to a world in its darkest moments. On October12, 2008. She was taken from her family, friends and me. I am alone filled with questions without any answers. Alicia I love you, and I know some day we will continue our life together. I first met Alicia when I joined the EPA. We hit it off right away, but then, with a personality like Alicia's, who wouldn't hit it off right away?
She was a very special person; always professional, dedicated, hardworking, principled and displayed exemplary work ethic. You just had to call on her and she was there to help.
On the lighter side, she was so fun-loving and full of energy. She was so easy to speak to and to just be myself.
It was only last Friday that we discussed her plans to further her studies. She had so much to look forward to but now she has been snatched away from this world.
As the reality of her passing sinks in, I continue to ask why would someone be so cruel? There is nothing in this world to justify such brutality to such a beautiful person.
Alicia will always be missed and remembered.

one of the most remarkable inner quality about Alicia that i would always remember was that she was truly genuine and trustworthy. as a workmate, in the most stressful of work situations she was lighhearted and a smile would eventually creep up on her face. she never took stress. she truly cared about others and although intelligent and accomplished, she was down to earth and could relate to anyone, i found this out on most of the field trips we were on together(especially the out of town ones). she was beautiful and still is and truly a blessin gin the earth. it hard to look across the room in our office and alicia is no longer there. my encouragement to her family is the all things work together for good to them that love God and are called according to his purpose, so please be encouraged, Alicia lived an exemplary life and will always be remembered by me for those qualities that made her stand out from the crowd.

Words matter not at this moment, and they say that you have to always be postive. How could anyone be postive now? Nothing could ever be the same. I will take all the memories I have of Alicia, from childhood to recent time, with me as long as I live. She was an amazing person, always looking out for others. So quite and peaceful, she never once complained or was discontent with what she had; always looking at the brighter side of any problem. She worked hard for what she had and was always grateful. Her future was so brighter it’s hard to accept the outcome. The way she was taken from us was unjustified and cruel. They might have taken her away from us but they could never take away the joy that she brought to our lives and the memories that will always be with us.

I've always admired her accomplishments, her dedication and great personality. Not to mention her devotion to God. We’re all proud of her.
She was a great model for many of us young people but now she's gone –and in such an incomprehensible manner.

The day i got the news about alicia death,I felt real sad. I felt the paint of all the friends of alicia. I knew her from UG since i was a Chemistry major at the time she was there.

As I read what everyone had to say - I just want to scream. I've lost a friend, a sister, a dear school mate. We did almost everything together in undergrad...and after.
I remember when I was leaving to pursue graduate studies, Alicia, with teary eyes told me she loves me, will miss me and hopes to see me again soon - and that she'll join me soon! We dreamt and planned about progress, one day having family picnics with our hubbies, children and us girls - Orlyn, Penny, Cassie, Amanda just grilling and talking about school days and our lives. Now the dream is one short!
I shake with horror at the senseless way she was murdered - I ask so many questions, very few are answered. I ache within, it shows outside, I wonder when will the senseless killing stop.
One thing I take away from this, Alicia was a Martyr. She did what she believed in, she stood for the right and because of her honesty and sincere disposition - she lost her life. Yet, she gave the world such a meaningful message - come life or death, be honest and I believe she truly fulfilled our BHS moto: "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, where you go." The funeral of the late Alicia Angelica Foster will take place on Tuesday 21st, October, 2008. Viewing will be at the Merriman Funeral Parlor from 10:00 am to 10:45 am, thence to Our Lady of Fatima Parish, New Garden and Robb Streets for further viewing from 11:00 am to 11:45 midday.
Celebration Service will commence at 12:00 midday.
Interment will be at the Pearly Gates Cemetery, Parika, East Bank Essequibo.
I have no words to express my sorrow, only my heart know the way I feel, this can't be comprehend, why the life of such an innocent person would end like that.
My sincerest sympathy goes to all her family and friends, may God fill your souls with love and patient, it is a long journey, but must come to an end, God is just God no matter how long it takes.

We can experience much personal growth because of all the suffering, worries, and difficulties we have to go through during our mortal lives. It is God's way of fine-tuning us so we become more compassionate, more caring, more loving, and more aware of others' pain. After all, how could we ever dry the tears of others if we had never cried ourselves?
We all find ourselves in the valley of despair sometimes. It may sometimes seem that we are forever worrying, learning lessons, suffering pain, and facing challenges. But we must try to remember that the fertilizer (Alicia) that helps us grow is in those valleys, not on the mountain tops.
During the times that we feel scared and confused, we will always end up wiser and we will grow more from the experiences of Alicia passing. We will understand more about people and life, become more sensitive, and we'll be able to enjoy life more after we go through the hard times.
We have to experience sadness so that we may better measure joy. Life has a way of balancing the sorrow with the joy, the disappointments with the hope, and the emptiness with the meaning.
